Mentoring

Hill County Mentoring for Tomorrow is a non-profit organization developed to serve the needs of Havre youth through mentoring programs. The program is designed to serve middle-school-aged youth.

Forms to request a mentor are distributed to fifth grade students and are provided to school counselors and service agencies for referral. For the child with low self-esteem, or with family or learning problems, the value of a trusted friend, a confidante, a guide and a role model, is obvious. Mentors can also be beneficial for youth in single-parent families.

Volunteer mentor come from all walks of life. Individual life experiences in learning and working with others are enough qualifications to be a mentor. The best mentors are people whose own enthusiasm for their work and recreation is so contagious that they inspire others just by doing what they enjoy most. Sharing interests with a young person is the beginning of mentoring.

Volunteers are asked to commit a few hours a week for one to three years. Each match is based on the needs of the child and the interests of both the child and the volunteer. Recruitment is ongoing.
